Hello, dear friend. It's Laura, author of The Fralsningdor Chronicles. Join me for a cup of tea at my writing nook in Wyoming! ☕️ Personal updates Today is September 1, which means the Hogwarts term is officially in session, and I'm about to start homeschool again with my muggle kiddos. By the time I'm back in your inbox, we will be well into our Ambleside reading schedule. For those who are unfamilar with Charlotte Mason, it involves a LOT of classical literature. I'm reading things with my eight year old that, even as a grown woman who loves books, I'd never even heard of before we started doing school this way last spring. I swear I'm being educated just as much as they are. Fun fact: Fran started doing Charlotte Mason with the Smith/La'arreth kids before I did with mine! When I described her school schedule in Lost King of the Pattern, we were actually doing something completely different. But readings and recitations just felt right for Fran (and made more sense for life on the road), which is why they made it into the book, even if it took me a year to catch up! 📝 Writing updates Of Signs & Flutters has reached the wordcount goal I set for it! 60K. Though I have yet to insert every scene that I hope the finished story will have, and will likely add/subtract a lot of words as I continue to edit. When it's all done and in your hands, the book will likely fall somwhere between Chosen of the Tapestry and Mending and Madness in length. 📚 Surprise character art It's been kind of a rough couple of months, and to help me cope, I've been finding a lot of joy in drawing silly little chibi guys. I've done some drawings of my own characters, fan art, and even a couple of commissions! Lately I've been posting them on Instagram, though I'm not sure if I'll continue to do that. For now, though, here are a few sketches of characters you know and love (as well as a few that you have yet to meet). 📚 Book promo: faith & family fantasy finds It's no secret that my books are oddly specific. Which is why I'm really excited to share this month's promo with you! The things that make my books different are the very things you'll find in these stories — families who trust the Lord in fantastical worlds. If you love Fran and Fi'eren because they're a normal couple juggling kids, or if Kfir's relationship arc with the Great King touched your heart, you can find your next faith-filled, family-focused, fantasy read right here. (Pssst... it helps me if you click the link, even if you don't download any books!) Please Note: I can't personally vouch for the content or theology of the books submitted, but I do know the participating authors have agreed to share stories that are "PG-13" or cleaner. As a reader, I feel safe giving these books a shot. Until next time!
