Hello From Idaho!

My family spent last week in Idaho with my mom and brother's family (which is why this email is late). There were many baked goods, romps through the woods, fish caught at the lake, and new whimsical cloaks for all the cousins to wear. Unfortunately, we brought home a nasty germ, so recovering from this trip will be a bit rougher than ususal.

We only just missed snowmageddon in WY when we got there, which made the 60⁰ weather in ID feel like a tropical vacation compared to the photos I was receiving from my group chat back home. RIP everyone's flower gardens.

It was nice to take a break from regular life, and now it's just as nice to be back. Oh, how I've missed my own bed.

WIP UPDATES:

(and housekeeping)

  • I am currently 25% through the first draft of Operation Chatterbox. God willing, I'm hoping to finish this draft by the end of July and begin edits in August (annnnnd I'm telling you this because I work best with a deadline — nothing like healthy peer pressure to help a girl focus). I currently have two weeks ahead of me with no trips and no homeschool. I fully intend to make the most of them and get "Steve" into all kinds of trouble.
  • The Realm Awards finalists were posted last week, and MAM didn't make it to the top three. I'm still so grateful that we got to the semi-finals, though, because that was much-needed encouragement! Honestly, I was not expecting to win, but I was expecting to be devastated when I didn’t. And surprisingly... nope. The disappointment quickly faded and was replaced with absolutely certainty that God is always doing A Thing™️ for His glory and the Church's good. Thanks again for your love and congratulations; I hope you'll support the three remaining finalists with just as much enthusiasm. (This update obviously isn’t a WIP, but I told y'all I'd let you know the results, and I, uh... didn't know where else to put it.)
  • You may have noticed that TGGG got a little makeover this week. These changes are mostly aesthetic and are supposed to help with deliverablity (apparently too many graphics = email providers flagging content as spam/promos). Because this is how I stay in touch with you, it is super duper important to me that I don't get exiled to your spam folder. (Seriously, it's scary in there!) The content will continue to be the same nonsense you know and love, though, so fret not.

A Chat With Kat From The Pencils & Lipstick Podcast

video preview

Yesterday I had the absolute honor of appearing on the Pencils & Lipstick Podcast with Kat Caldwell! Kat is an absolute delight, and I know you guys are going to love her.

We had such a fun conversation about marriage and motherhood in fantasy novels, why Christian fiction can sometimes feel a little too “shiny,” balancing writing with raising children, Amazon vs. IngramSpark, my conversion to Christianity (five years ago this June), and the goodness of God.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this book so much that I am going to be absolutely insufferable telling everyone I know to read it ad nauseam. It's a meandering memoir about an astronaut from the ISS, but every single story shouts Jesus to the point that I would happily place it next to my theology books on my bookshelf. Captain Wilmore has lived a life that could easily make someone feel extremely proud of themselves, but he gives all the glory to God, showing us again and again through his experiences that the Lord was sovereign over every minute of it. The author explained the indignity of space diapers, told us gator tales, detailed piloting a plane through missile fire, and quoted the 1689 London Baptist Confession — all in the same book. In other words, it was equal parts informative, hilarious, and inspiring, all while inviting you to worship the living God on every page. Our entire family loved it, and five stars is simply not enough!
